While others were busy getting their life from Beyoncé’s new album, Rihanna was getting hers as the new face of Balmain.


By now I’m sure you have the lyrics to all the songs on Beyoncé’s Beyoncé album memorized, and you’re working on getting the choreography down from those 17 vids. After all it’s been a week since King Bey dropped her surprise EP, and the internetz have yet to recover.

But while Bey was busy mesmerizing the masses, Rihanna quietly dropped her own bit of statement making news. The Pour It Up singer is the latest face of French fashion house Balmain and their Spring 2014 Collection.

Says Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing of the partnership:

“When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete.”

Lensed by noted photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and styled by Rihanna’s own personal stylist Mel Ottenberg, the ads take on a decidedly more visually approachable style.

Even with her model enviable looks, Rihanna doesn’t come off as aloof as traditional models in recent ad campaigns have done so. She ‘smizing’ as Tyra would say, but Rihanna remains relatable throughout the shots, giving Balmain a level of accessibility to the masses they’ve never before had.
