jessica-lange-marc-jacobs-beauty

If you’ve watched any season of anthology series American Horror Story (if you haven’t, you should remedy that) then this pairing should make perfect sense to you.

Announced today, two time Oscar winning actress Jessica Lange has been tapped as the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty.

Over the course of her American Horror Story run, Jessica has portrayed a string of strong, capable women, who more often than not look good even when they’re doing bad.

There’s a certain innate sultriness to Jessica Lange, and if the above teaser campaign image is any indication, photographer David Sims has captured it perfectly.

Be on the lookout for future campaign images, but in the meantime, catch up on American Horror Story or browse around the Marc Jacbos Beauty website for your perfect picks.

chanel-iman-sports-illustrated-jourdan-dunn-elle-style-awards

The career of a high fashion runway model is pretty short lived these days. The era of The Supers and their decades long careers is essentially over.

So it’s a testament to the talents and brains behind the beauties that are Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn that both models have not only managed to work consistently in the industry, but have also maintained ‘top model’ statuses.

Chanel Iman splashed onto the fashion scene back in 2007 when Vogue Magazine dubbed her one of The World’s Next Top Models.

Since then she’s had a career of highlights including becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel and making her 2014 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue debut.

To celebrate that latest achievement, Chanel attended the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit South Beach Soiree looking every bit the top model she is.

She donned a two-piece ensemble from the Fausto Puglisi Resort 2014 collection that featured a cropped top, and flared a-line mini skirt. Chanel completed the look with Giuseppe Zanotti black and gold studded ankle strap sandals.

Chanel is currently battling it out with this year’s other Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue newbies for the title of ‘Rookie of the Year’, but considering her high fashion and commercial success, she’s already a winner.

Like Chanel, Jourdan Dunn also had a much talked about entry into the world of modeling when she was the first black model in ten years to walk in a Prada runway show in 2007.

That headline making debut was quickly followed by an equally as talked about turn as a cover model for Vogue Italia’s controversial ‘Black Issue’, and after nearly ten years in the modeling game, Jourdan is still making waves in the industry.

She’s currently the host of her own cooking show on Jay-Z’s Life + Times lifestyle website entitled Well Done with Jourdan Dunn, and recently partnered with Mrs. Shawn Carter herself, aka Beyoncé, for the songstress’ racy Yoncé video.

Considering her certified list of fashion credentials, it should be no surprise that Jourdan’s personal style is quite on point.

The London born beauty successfully turned it out on the red-carpet of the Elle Style Awards 2014, wearing a black and white mini dress from the Tom Ford Spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection.

Center parted loosely waved locks, and Tom Ford open toe leather booties finished off Jourdan’s ripped from the runway ensemble.

lupita-nyongo-calvin-klein-fashion-show

Forget the latest rumors suggesting Lupita Nyong’o and Jared Leto have entered into some type of romantic union, let’s talk about the real story to come out of Lupita’s front row turn at Calvin Klein’s Fall 2014 collection presentation.

lupita-nyongo-anna-wintour-calvin-klein-fashion-show

She smiles! Anna Wintour is capable of expressing emotion just like the rest of us!

But who wouldn’t be all smiles seated next to current Hollywood star of the moment Lupita Nyong’o, though?

Wearing a cotton candy colored sweater-dress from the Calvin Klein Pre-Fall 2014 collection, Lupita was the proverbial breath of fresh air amidst the otherwise dour setting that has been New York Fashion Week Fall 2014, aka Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, aka that week we all learned ‘thundersnow’ was an actual thing.

Seated beside the aforementioned Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, and fellow actor Naomi Watts, Lupita was as radiant as ever completing her pastel look with matching Calvin Klein heels, and a spring ready face done in pink and purple hues.

Hopefully among the topics of discussion between the editrix and the Oscar nominee, was talk of an upcoming cover and feature editorial for Lupita.

dakota-fanning-celebrity-fashion-rodarte-show

Sure little sis Elle Fanning might currently be one of the faces of Miu Miu’s Spring ad campaign, and sure it wasn’t Elle’s first time at the designer campaign rodeo, but…

Let us not forget that it was eldest sister Dakota Fanning who first fronted a designer ad campaign at the ripe old age of 12 when she served as muse for the Marc Jacobs Spring 2007 campaign.

And don’t forget it was Dakota Fanning who took part in Fashion’s Night Out wearing a fab little patent leather dress from Prada.

And…proving she’s willing to be adventurous when it comes to fashion and her look, it was Dakota who boldly dyed her hair pink.

All this to say: Don’t sleep on the eldest Fanning sister when it comes to fashion.

Dakota is, after all, the sister who’s sitting front row with Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour at the Rodarte Fall 2014 collection presentation, looking quite chummy I might add.

Both Fanning sisters have worn Rodarte on the red carpet, so it was no surprise to see Dakota on hand to support the designing sisters behind the brand, Kate and Laura Mulleavy.

Decked out in her Rodarte finest, Dakota wore a Fall 2013 look from the label, that included a dipped hem skirt with contrast lining and beaded detailing, a nude tank top, and black and white contrast stripe pumps.

It’s a more adult look than what we’re used to seeing from Elle, one that says, “Hey I’m a 19 year old college student at NYU.

We hear you Dakota. We hear you.

holland-roden-fashion-vampire-academy-premiere-elana-reva

I don’t watch MTV’s Teen Wolf (I watch way too much tv as it is), but series star Holland Roden has me rethinking that ‘no watch’ stance.

Holland first popped up on my style radar when she wore head-to-toe floral Ted Baker to the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards. It takes a certain type of moxie to wear all over print to a high profile event, and Holland had it in spades.

Four for you, Holland Coco. Four for you.

For the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, Holland was again a red carpet standout wearing a bold Naeem Khan creation that featured a floor length taffeta skirt over matching taffeta cigarette pants.

Perhaps it’s past time I took serious fashion note of Holland, as she once again chose to boldly go where few have fashionably gone before on the red carpet, at the L.A. premiere of Vampire Academy.

Wearing a look from the Elana Reva Spring 2014 collection, Holland proved ‘red carpet appropriate’ doesn’t have to mean ‘dress or skirt required’.

Her fashion forward look consisted of a watercolor printed sleeveless trapeze top with center box pleat detailing and matching ankle length slim fit trousers from Ukrainian designer Elena Reva in collaboration with artist Lada Nakonechna.

Olcay Gulsen metal ankle strap pumps ($420) and an Amanda Pearl ‘Crepuscolo’ duchess satin roll clutch ($1,345) completed the Teen Wolf actress’ chic ensemble.

Consider my interest in Holland and her sense of style officially piqued.

beyonce-fashion-pom-pom-hat

Forget what the groundhog predicted. Ain’t nobody got time for polar vortexes, especially not style superstars like Beyoncé Knowles.

King Bey sat court side with hubby Jay at a Nets versus 76ers basketball game, and proved that even though it’s freezing outside, fashion doesn’t have to take a backseat to function.

Wearing an on trend (plaid is hot right now) Karl Lagerfeld ‘Vicious’ leather trimmed tartan jacket ($630), Beyoncé kept adorably warm by accessorizing her look with a double pom pom knit ‘Mimi’ beanie from Eugenia Kim ($165).

As you step out and brave the cold temps that are blanketing most of the country right now, remember that small things like a statement coat, and the right head gear can make a huge difference with your look.

zendaya-fashion-grammy-weekend-2014

New year. New hair color. New career path. Disney starlet Zendaya Coleman seized the moment, using The 2014 Grammy Awards weekend to establish herself as a stylish new entry on the Hollywood music scene.

zendaya-fashion-pre-grammy-party-gucci-resort

First up on Zendaya’s Grammy weekend schedule was a stop at the Friends ‘N’ Family 17th Annual Pre-Grammy Party at the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

She went full on glitz and glamour with her look, wearing a rose gold metallic three piece suit ensemble from the Gucci Resort 2014 collection.

Zendaya’s outfit consisted of an oversized lamé jacket ($2,500), a matching lamé tank ($795), and matching lamé wide-leg relaxed fit trousers ($1450).

It’s a head-to-toe metallic look that could be overwhelming on some, but coming in at 5’10″, Zendaya has height on her side. This allows all the pieces to drape perfectly on her frame.

zendaya-fashion-grammys-2014-emanuel-ungaro

For the actual Grammy Awards red carpet, Zendaya chose a look from the Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection that was all about drama.

With it’s black sheer blouse, and blue chiffon maxi length skirt that featured a thigh high split, Zendaya’s Ungaro outfit is a decidedly more adult look for the starlet.

Slicked back hair, smoky eyes, and black patent leather Christian Louboutin pumps completed Zendaya’s Grammy night look, and were the perfect accents for her sophisticated ensemble.

denise-vasi-single-ladies-striped-two-piece-dress-02

If you’re not watching VH1′s Single Ladies, then what are you waiting for? Sure, it’s a little cheesy. Yes, it’s a lot soapy. And the acting is kind of…meh. But if for no other reason, Single Ladies is worth a spot on your DVR list for the fashion alone.

Under the creative guidance of Project Runway alum Anthony L. Williams, Single Ladies has become cable’s secret fashion gem.

The show revolves around three professional women— Raquel, Keisha, and April— who are single (natch), and Anthony does an excellent job of creating fashion forward looks for three characters that can be easily translated in the real world.

Too often tv shows feature excellent fashion ensembles that don’t work anywhere beyond the confines of the soundstage or the red carpet.

But Anthony has managed to consistently construct outfits that might be fashion forward, but could be easily worn by us ‘regular’ women.

Case in point, Denise Vasi (who plays Raquel on the VH1 show) wore a striped two piece cropped top and pencil skirt ensemble that easily attainable.

How attainable? Anthony reveals he found the striped dress (yes, it was originally a dress) at a T.J. Maxx, and had the brilliant idea of altering it to become the two piece outfit worn by Denise.

If you don’t have the time or the skills to attempt your own DIY creation, see above for alternative options to Denise/Raquel’s ‘custom’ design, like the
Torn by Ronny Kobo ‘Emma’ Crop Top ($198) and matching ‘Ronny’ skirt ($190}.

And while you’re deciding which version of this stripes on stripes look deserves a home in your wardrobe, check out Anythony’s VH1 interview where he explains his process for choosing outfits that reflect each character’s distinct look/personality:

lupita-nyongo-entertainment-weekly-party-sag-awards-pga-awards

I have a sneaking suspicion that until the Academy Awards happen in March, this place will become an unofficial shrine to gift from the fashion gods, Lupita Nyong’o.

The girl can do no wrong when it comes to fashion.

Whether she’s opting for a casual chic look, or something more formal at a black tie affair, or even a flirty after five frock, Lupita proved over the course of one weekend, that she and her style team can handle it all.

lupita-nyongo-entertainment-weekly-sag-party-valentino

Before nabbing a win for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Lupita attended Entertainment Weekly’s SAG Awards nominee celebration, and ditched the floor length gowns in exchange for a fun and flirty vintage Valentino number.

Lupita was all smiles as she posed on the red carpet in her sleeveless mini dress that featured a high neckline, and 3D applique flowers throughout the front.

With such an intricately detailed dress, Lupita kept it safe when it came to her accessories, which included an Amanda Pearl clutch and Paul Andrew shoes.

lupita-nyongo-sag-awards-gucci-dress

For her big day on the SAG Awards red carpet, Lupita wore arguably her best look to date. With her hair styled in a fresh high-top ‘do, and her makeup done in shades of pink and blue, Lupita literally had heads turning in a floor length aqua colored gown from Gucci.

Featuring a meticulously pieced together yoke of floral appliques and matching beadwork, Lupita’s dress was an instant standout amongst a sea of relative fashion mediocrity.

lupita-nyongo-producers-guild-awards-stella-mccartney

A different awards show, and a different red carpet, but Lupita remained as impeccably put together as ever.

After the extravagance of her SAG Awards red carpet moment, Lupita opted for a more streamlined look for the Producers Guild of America Awards.

The 12 Years a Slave actress wore a tawny colored asymmetrical dress from Stella McCartney styled with heels also from the designer.

With such a simple and uncomplicated dress, Lupita went for a bolder look in the makeup department, wearing this season’s very on trend deep plum lip.

A snakeskin Chesneau Heltzel clutch and Jamie Wolf jewelry completed her look.

pregnant-kerry-washington-sag-awards-cropped-top

Pregnant in heels? It seems like every celebrity mommy-to-be worth her fashion salt can handle that. But can they handle walking the red carpet of a major awards show in a belly baring ensemble?

For Scandal actress Kerry Washington, the answer is a resounding yes.

Kerry, who’s known for her red carpet style, took a major fashion risk at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards by choosing to wear a custom Prada design that featured amongst other things, a beaded cropped top that gave just enough of a peek of Kerry’s bare pregnant belly.

The pink top was paired with a black pleated full length ballroom skirt, and Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalace’ stiletto heels ($795) that feature a black dentelle lace body, and black satin covered five inch heel.

The question now becomes is this a fashion trend you can get behind? Pregnant women wearing crop tops, should this now be a thing?

There doesn’t appear to be much critical backlash against Kerry’s daring ensemble choice. Perhaps it’s a combination of not wanting to say anything negative about a pregnant woman, and the fact that Kerry’s so likeable and seems to be sincerely happy with her wardrobe choice for the night, that have kept the critics at bay.

But…I’m not sure I can sign off on this look.

I LOVE that Kerry threw the notion of typical maternity red carpet wear completely out the window and instead opted for an outfit she loved, baby bump be damned.

It’s not the cropped top or the baring of the pregnant belly that gives me pause with this look. It’s the weird silhouette created when the top, the bump, and the skirt all come together that makes go, hmmm…

I like the idea of this outfit far more than the actual execution. I think a fitted skirt would’ve gone a long way toward fixing the proportion and silhouette issues caused by the pairing of the wide skirt with the wide cropped top.

Thoughts? Are you all for the crop top trend making it’s way into maternity fashion?
