Just how many wardrobe changes does one popstar need to attend an awards show? Apparently the magic number is four, at least it was for Katy Perry at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The Firework singer made four different appearances during the VMA show, and she had a different look each time.
For her arrival ensemble, Katy wore an Atelier Versace Fall 2011 dress that perfectly matched her bubble gum pink hair. The kimono inspired dress made of neoprene sequins, featured cherry blossom-like detailing across a light blue background.
A parasol, cherry blossoms in her hair, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and bright pink Jimmy Choo ‘Beak’ sandals finish off her outfit.
Katy made her second wardrobe change of the night, taking the stage to introduce British singer Adele. Katy went for full gothic drama in an aubergine Tom Ford Fall 2011 lace floor-length gown. With it’s high neckline, and sheer sleeves, not only does the dress have a gothic feel, but a lingerie inspired one, too.
There aren’t too many starlets out there who could pull off pairing pink hair with a purple dress, but somehow it all seems so ‘Katy’ that it just works.
It was a look from Dior’s first post-Galliano collection that Katy wore as her third outfit of the evening. Her Christian Dior Fall 2011 Couture ensemble included a pink top paired with a boldly printed black and white tulip skirt.
As visually interesting as the outfit is on it’s own, it’s the yellow cube headpiece done by designer Stephen Jones as part of the Dior collection, that commands attention. Not that Katy’s pink hair and multicolored Giuseppe Zanotti wedges didn’t attempt to do that, too.
To close out her evening, Katy hit up the VMA press room wearing a unique (that’s an understatement) dress designed by Johnny Wujek for Furne One. While her other looks for the night were definitely colorful and statement making, this one has to be the most costume-y of them all.
It’s a dress trimmed in blinged out records, one of which features Katy’s name. To top off the look (literally), Katy added a miniature record top hat. You clearly need a certain kind of personality to even attempt to wear something like this, and as a matter of fact, you kind of need to be a popstar, lol.
I’m not sure how fashion forward this last outfit is, but it’s definitely fun. What do you think, though?
