Random straps of hanging fabric seemed to be the womenswear trend of the night at the Gossip Girl 100th Episode Celebration party. Both of the show’s leading ladies showed up wearing dresses that featured the possibly (or not so possibly) emerging trend.
Of the two starlets it was Blake Lively, who proudly stresses the fact that she doesn’t use a personal stylist, that was the most adventurous with her look. The actress who plays Serena on the CW show, wore a Marchesa Spring 2011 dress which featured intricate embroidery, and fringed edges.
To finish off her look, Blake donned a pair of Versace crystal embellished platform d’Orsay sandals from the label’s Spring 2009 collection.
On the other end of the style spectrum, but not quite the completely opposite end, Leighton Meester, who plays the always in fashion Blair on the CW show, opted for a relatively simple Balmain strapless dress.
The dress features an almost buckle detailing across the bust, and then again across the waist.
The skirt of the dress is an unevenly hemmed concoction of silk chiffon.
The ladies went minimal on the accessories, Blake opting only for a pair of earrings to complement her Versace heels, while Leighton had no visible jewels at all, instead letting her Jimmy Choo ‘Lauren’ diamanté and suede sandals get all the attention.
Both of these starlets have amazing senses of style, yet I can’t help but feel like they’ve let themselves down with these looks. They’ve both brought it WAY harder on other occasions. Well, there’s always next time.
