M.I.A. goes platinum in Milan, shows off her new hair color at Versace’s Fall 2011 collection presentation.

She’s been wearing this new hair color for a few month now, but British singer-songwriter M.I.A. properly showed off her new platinum dyed locks at the Versace Fall 2011 fashion show, during Milan Fashion Week. Pictured side by side, M.I.A.’s hair color is only the slightest shade darker than Dontalla Versace’s signature platinum hue.

Wearing a strapless kelly green dress, that featured both cutouts and a feathered skirt, it was a more glamorous Mathangi Arulpragasam (M.I.A.’s birth name) than we’re used to seeing, sitting front row at 12 Via Gesù, for the Versace show. She finished off her ensemble with orange platform sandals, a matching orange clutch, and nearly matching burnt orange lipstick.

Back to the hair, though. Surprisingly, I don’t dislike the platinum, and in fact, it’s slowly growing on me. M.I.A.’s shade of blonde is of the correct hue, to complement the undertones of her skin. Plus, unlike many other celebs who’ve recently tried to pull off wearing platinum hair, M.I.A. has the bold personality needed to make this work.
