More Chanel Couture, Carey Mulligan at the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

The Chanel Fall 2010 couture collection continues to be popular on the red carpet. Joining an increasingly long list of celebs who’ve recently worn couture Chanel, actress Carey Mulligan wore look number 45 from the collection, to the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards. Her burgundy sequin dress, with gold detailing at the shoulders, is similar in style and silhouette to Blake Lively’s red Chanel dress, but while Blake is killing her look, I’m not quite buying Carey’s.

Shoes can make or break an outfit, and here, they’re doing the latter. Carey’s brown suede booties are the wrong color, wrong style, and are just too ‘heavy’ for this dress. I like the rest of her look, though. Her sleek and simple bob is a perfect compliement to the intricacy of her dress. This could have been a great look, if only she’d chosen a different shoe.

That was my first thought exactly… Why did she choose such a pair of shoes?

Yeah, those shoes completely sabotaged her look. I don’t know what her stylist was thinking.
