Remember this face. Joan Smalls is owning Fashion Week, Spring 2011.

She’s been on the quiet come up for a few seasons now, but IMG model, Joan Smalls, is definitely the it girl of the Spring 2011 fashion season. New York, London, Milan, and Paris, she’s walked in the biggest shows during all the Fashion Weeks. Even closing out Christian Dior during Paris Fashion Week, and I don’t know if you know, but that’s kind of a big deal. And how’s this for celebrity cred? She was named dropped as one of Kanye West’s favorite models, on his G.O.O.D. Friday release, ‘Christian Dior Denim Flow.’

The twenty-two-year-old Puerto Rican native, born Joan Rodriguez, signed to Elite Model Management in 2007, and after a two year stint breaking into the industry walking in shows including Rachel Roy, Tracey Reese, and Ports 1961, Joan hit the big leagues in 2009, signing with IMG, the agency that’s home to modeling greats like Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, and Gisele Bundchen.

This Spring 2011 fashion season, Joan has walked in shows from designers like Stella McCartney, Versace, Marc Jacobs, Gucci, to Roberto Cavalli, Emilio Pucci, Christian Dior, and even made an appearance in the exclusive Tom Ford Spring 2011 show alongside Beyonce, where the designer had this to say about Miss Smalls:

“Ladies and gentleman, Miss Joan Smalls …” he said, introducing one of the catwalk’s current stars, “… who I think just turned me straight.”

After a season with this level of success, expect big things to come from Joan Smalls.
