Kelis has had a full year, to say the least. The birth of her first child, the end of her marriage, the release of a new album, she’s gone through a lot of change recently, and it’s clear through her recent style choices, that she’s undergoing a self reinvention phase. This isn’t anything new for Kelis though. From her ‘I hate you so much right now,’ days, through ‘Milkshake,’ through ‘Bossy,’ she’s constantly on to the next look. It’s her ability to adapt, and change, that has kept her on our style radar all these years.
Kelis covers the latest issue of Trace Magazine, but this isn’t her first time pulling cover duty for the mag. She also graced the cover back in January of 2007, and what a difference almost four years makes.
Back then, Kelis was in the midst of her ‘Bossy’ days, sporting her shaved on the sides, full on the top, haircut, and was rocking a wardrobe that showed off her perfectly toned body. These days, Kelis has a ‘mother Earth, that’s not exactly from this planet’ vibe, that– just as with all of her past fashion reincarnations– works for her. Yes, it’s odd. Yes, it’s out there. But, at the end of the day, it’s Kelis.
