What Should Christian Do?

by Norell Alesse on October 30, 2007

christian louboutin - steve madden
I’m a huge fan of Christian Louboutin, celebrity shoe designer. His shoes are instantly recognized by their red soles, and in addition to this unique feature, the shoes are fabulously chic. Now I’m also a fan of Steve Madden. His shoes are often inspired by high end celebrity designers, but they’re available for much more reasonable prices. But when does inspiration become just straight copying? Check out these booties, the red soled shoe is obviously a Christian Louboutin creation. Called the “Miss Fred Tacco Boot” this bad boy retails for nearly $700. The Steve Madden shoe on the left, called “Becks,” is an obvious ripoff. The thing is it retails for $150, a major difference in price. Is it wrong for Mr. Madden to completely steal the work of someone else? And is it wrong of us budget conscious fashionistas to buy the Madden version of the shoe? What do you guys think?

obviously there are people out there that just buy shoes for its brand name and to show they have class but reality: save time and stress and get what you can afford. then theres others that can afford Louboutin like another dollar, but they can afford it.

the only person that can judge you crucialy for what you have is yourself because the guilt or the compermise that you have for not owning a certin shoe brand or a name brand bag that someone else can have. so buy what you can afford and be HAPPY with the purchase you have made:)

Who tha h€ll has $700 to spend on shoes? If you have that much $ to buy shoes with then..there are people starving and children dying in this orld who could use just one meal, one shot, one helping hand. You are one selfish silly little girly girl Paris Hilton worshipping loser to pay someone that much $ for a scrap of painted leather!!!! LMAO at yall!

I have bought 3 pairs of Louboutin at their boutique here in Paris and honestly after wearing them the red leather base gets dirty and the leather would eventually peel off. worst is that they are flats!

I love em CL still but I'm not sure whether they are worth it anymore :(

Who ever says a fashionista is is not budget-conscious obviously is mistaking a fashionista for a fashion-whore.
Fashion isn't about buying $700 shoes, it's about making a statement whether your scarf is Hermes or a cut off of your drapes.
Real fashion comes from the streets. Ask any major house. The inspiration doesn't come from other $700 shoes. In the world of fashion as an art, money is inconsequential.
As for Steve Madden, I don't support his ripping off Christian Louboutin because it's fairly easy to create a sexy shoe than anyone would love to wear. I don't condemn the people buying them though. I understand that big designer labels aren't always affordable and you have to make do with what you can.

Have you noticed how the images of the shoes are identical, even in the way the laces are tied and the angle and all the highlights in colour.
I'm thinking photoshopped.
Though it is sad for designers that other "designers" completely copy and steal.

they are the same shoe! just the heal has been photoshopped!

It’s obvious that someone painted the other, shoelaces on both shoe are in the same position.

WOW i can’t blieve how many of you are so ignorant about this topic. I undersatnd that certain people buy shoes because they love how they look, but if you purposely buy shoes that resemble the REAL thing then it is NOT RIGHT. It is stealing someone else’s designs and idea. For example, if you created something original, would you want people to copy them into total duplicates and get the credit for it? it is a matter of resepect and I refuse to even look at a pair of shoes that look like it came straight from the runway with quality that couldn’t even compare. Please, after all, we are living in a world with a little bit of morals, right?

I think it’s OK to copy the work from Christian Louboutin especially when the price is lower. So the “stars” can buy the real one and we “normalos” have the fake one, but we also can enjoy the look of a nice shoe, designed by Louboutin and sold by Madden.
