Dolce & Gabbana Back Down

by Norell Alesse on March 9, 2007

Amidst protests in Italy and Spain, Dolce & Gabbana are withdrawing this ad from circulation. As you can see, the ad features a women being held down by a shirtless man, while other men watch in the background. Feminist groups accuse that the ad depicts ‘fantasy rape,’ and depicts violence against women.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the duo behind D&G, insist that the ads were not meant to be offensive. They say the ads depict an erotic dream; a sexual game. Dolce & Gabbana ads have alway been racy, and this one is no exception. What do you all think? Did D&G push the limits too far on this one?

“if a man was held down, what would people think?”

YEAH FUCKING RIGHT. How many ads do you see of men being portrayed in totally submissive and hypersexual ways?
You would be hard pressed to find ANY, let alone one where a man is being pinned down and surrounded by women standing around him and looking at him in such an arrogant an predatory manner, as they do in this ridiculous dolce and gabbana one. It basically glorifies gang rape and the forced submission of a helpless looking women.

Erotic dreams and games MY ASS. There’s a million better things they could have come up with that idea rather than creating an ad where a women looks like she’s about to be gang raped by five greasy and mean looking assholes.

Erotic dream, sexual game-YES!
It works for me.
I thought feminist groups died in the eighties.

I agree with Budget Chic… this ad should have never been printed in the first place.. It also shows you the level of respect the female model has for agreeing to do such a thing..
