Nancy G. Brinker made a promise to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever, and it was in 1982 that she fulfilled this promise with the formation of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. 2007 marks the 25th anniversary of the foundation, and to celebrate they’ve implemented several new initiatives, including a new look and logo.

As part of the new initiative, and in an attempt to bring awareness to younger women, the foundation is selling a new tshirt– If you’re going to stare at my breasts you could at least donate a dollar to save them.– with all proceeds going to the foundation. Another popular item is are the Susan G. Komen for a Cure promise rings. The rings are sold as a pair to symbolize how the search for a cure links all women. Actor Hugh Laurie was seen sporting one of these at this year’s Golden Globes. Breast Cancer is a disease that affects all women, and the search for a cure is a cause close to my heart, so it’s nice to know that by doing something as simple as buying a $5 ring, we’re helping the cause.
