Audrey Hepburn’s infamous little black dress, which was worn by the actress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, has to be one of the most iconic and well known staples of fashion. Last week the dress was put up for auction by the dress’ designer, Hubert de Givenchy. It ended up going for $811, 800, which will be donated to the City of Joy foundation for impoverished children in India. The bid was won by the house of Givenchy, who said the dress will be preserved in its archives.

Considering that it has been over 40 years since this movie made its debut, the fact that this dress could still be worn today truly speaks to its timelessness. Words like ‘classic’ and ‘timeless’ are thrown about so often, it’s nice to see something that is truly befitting these titles.

Here’s Natalie Portman wearing the dress on a recent cover of Harper’s Bazaar.
